About JOE
Joe Samuels was born in Charlottesville and, after graduating from Hampden-Sydney College, joined his father in the real estate company started by his grandfather in 1913. Today Joe is President and Principal Broker of a small firm dedicated to the sale of Virginia’s farms and historic estates. He serves on the Board of WorkSource Enterprises (worksourceva.org) providing employment and assistance to people with disabilities. Joe was a founding member and for many years Vice-Chair of Albemarle County’s Acquisition of Conservation Easements (ACE) Program providing local farmers the opportunity to protect their farms and livelihood through conservation easements and the sale of development rights. Joe has also served on the Boards of the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation (cacfonline.org); the Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors and the National Board of Equine Land Conservation Resource (elcr.org). Joe is Past President of the Whitehall Ruritan Club and former Vestry and Junior Warden of Charlottesville’s St. Paul’s Memorial Church. Joe and his wife, Owie, live on Long Ridge Farm in Free Union just outside Charlottesville. Their daughter, Kate, is a rising star in the sport of Three Day Eventing and competes at the Advanced Level with goals of International Competition for the USA.
