MARY LIB RICHARDS A native of Statesville, NC, Mary Lib graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1982 with a B.A. in Journalism. She worked in advertising with Jefferson-Pilot Communications before she and her husband, Jim, had children. She stayed home with the boys when they were young and later worked for Davidson College, Boone Communities and Saussy Burbank Builders before getting her real estate license in 2001. Her parents had both been in real estate, so she grew up learning the business from them. She enjoys the wonderful people she meets, the negotiating and the satisfaction of helping people find the right home. Mary Lib is active in the community and is a strong supporter of Davidson College Athletics, Davidson Elementary Tigers on the Prowl, DUMC, Lake Norman YMCA and Ada Jenkins Community Center. She enjoys walking her dogs, exercising, reading and spending time with family and friends. Mary Lib is a Certified Residential Specialist (CRS). This is the highest designation awarded to sales associates in the residential sales field. It recognizes professional accomplishments in both experience and education. Mary Lib and Jim have hired Sommer Holcombe, an expert in marketing to help the Richards Group. Sommer makes sure the homes they have listed get top billing on social media websites. She also creates professional marketing materials that help clients' homes sell faster. The professional photography company, Tour Factory, takes high quality photos and produces tours of the Richards Group's listings. JIM RICHARDS A native of Lancaster, SC, Jim graduated from Davidson College in 1980 with a BA in History. He spent much of his business career as a property casualty insurance agent in and around Charlotte, NC. In 1993 the Richards moved their family to Davidson, NC so Jim could serve as the Executive Director of the Davidson Athletic Foundation (the athletic fundraising area of Davidson College). After seven years in that capacity, he rejoined an old friend, Jay Wade, as minority owner of the J.J. Wade Insurance Agency on Main Street in Davidson. About 5 years ago Jim sold his interest in the company and joined his wife, Mary Lib, with her rapidly growing residential real estate practice. As a licensed broker, Jim helps Mary Lib with all aspects of the business. His primary focus is as a buyer’s agent, liaison for all Keller Williams correspondence, comparative marketing analyst for seller listings, and land/acreage acquisition. The Richards are investors in the Huntersville, NC branch of Keller Williams and Jim serves on the Agent Leadership Council as Growth and Retention Chair. Jim and Mary Lib have two boys, Rich (25), a graduate of the University of Alabama, a teacher with STEM’s Academy in Nashville, TN and Jip (22), a senior baseball player at Davidson College. Jim’s main interests outside of work are all sports, particularly Davidson athletics, his service at Davidson United Methodist Church, yard work, dogs and reading.
