About Joel

Joel Avila (pronounced ho-EL) was born and raised in the desert town of Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico. In 2017, he came to Taos for what he thought would be a short visit, and like many people before him, he never left. Taos became his home, and it’s where he now lives with his wife. Before real estate, Joel spent four years building custom homes with one of the top builders in the area. That experience taught him how houses really work, not just how they look from the outside, but what is happening behind the walls. He still leans on that knowledge every day when helping clients evaluate properties, spot potential issues, and make smart decisions. His career in real estate started by working with investors across Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Santa Fe. During that time, he worked closely with homeowners facing foreclosure, helping them either keep their homes or move forward with clarity and dignity. That work shaped how he approaches real estate today: straightforward, hands-on, and focused on people, not pressure. Joel has dedicated himself fully to this profession, bringing together his background in construction and foreclosures before earning his broker license. In his very first year with Coldwell Banker Mountain Properties, he earned the Sterling Society award, placing him among the top 13% of Coldwell Banker brokers worldwide. Today, Joel is proud to continue growing as a real estate professional and serving clients throughout Northern New Mexico. As a bilingual broker, he is able to serve clients who speak English or Spanish, making communication clearer and helping families feel more confident throughout the process. He believes real estate is deeply personal because it affects families, futures, and important life decisions. His goal is to guide every client with honesty, care, and clear communication, treating their family and their goals as if they were his own.
